Australian How To Paint

Issue 42
Magazine

Australian How To Paint magazine chooses a topic or style of art each issue and gives you a comprehensive guide for you to develop your skills. Over the series we will cover all major painting technques plus popular paint ideas.

Wildlife Artist • By using his skills as an artist and his lifetime observations of Australia’s birds and animals, James’ passion comes from an urgency to protect our natural native heritage.

The Ducks • Bernard West captures the fine details of the ducks and their serene surroundings.

The Wildlife Realist • A lifetime love of birds and animals is evident in the incredibly detailed watercolour and gouache paintings created by this artist.

The Red Capped Robin • The meticulous attention to detail brings this brightly coloured Australian chap to life, so much so that you can almost hear his “dit drr it” chirping.

Painting for Pleasure • Heart over mind? Whilst Marion was determined not to become an artist, her heart differed, and now painting is such an integral part of her life she couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Yellow Footed Antechinus Meets Rainbow Lorikeets • This painting captures the glorious colours of these delightful birds.

Local Royalty • Birds make great subjects with interactions that mimic our own. Sit anywhere long enough and they will engage with you in some way.

Just do it! • Rosslyn explains her passion, “Most importantly, I intend to continue to share that which I have gleaned from art (and life), and really participate in and enjoy the life of an ‘emerging’ artist.”

Kick it to Me, Kick it to Me! • Adding in more emus is all part of the fun

Should we or Shouldn’t we? • The artist draws these superb Blue Wrens with a Ramie Moth caterpillar

Wildlife Art • Australian native birds are a mainstay for this man who is passionate about painting wildlife. For as long as he can remember, he has always painted and drawn birds and animals.

Purple Swamp Hens • Some mischievous ‘local characters’ were selected as subjects for this watercolour work which displays the artist’s mastery of his chosen medium.

Wildlife Artist • Discovering he had a skill for drawing and painting as a youngster, this artist has continually refined his skills, combining these with his love of the native wildlife of Australia.

The Cassowary • Mission Beach in Far North Queensland supplied the stunning rainforest backdrop to this beautiful bird and her chicks.
