Australian How To Paint

Issue 45
Magazine

Australian How To Paint magazine chooses a topic or style of art each issue and gives you a comprehensive guide for you to develop your skills. Over the series we will cover all major painting technques plus popular paint ideas.

Queen of the Rusty Iron • Born in Amsterdam in the Netherlands and raised in Cairns in Far North Queensland, Ludij Peden has seen her share of contrasts during her life’s journey.

Last Light Before the Storm – Atherton Tablelands • Queensland’s accomplished ‘Queen of the Rusty Iron’ describes her method for producing this charming picture of a crumbling old rural building.

It’s MY Turn • Being a teacher, mother, business woman and active community member wasn’t enough for this artist, who decided that she also needed to follow her artistic ambitions.

The Morning Light • Using a photograph of an old cottage on the outskirts of Wondai in Queensland, the artist captures the light and the soft coolness of the bush in the early morning.

Subtleties of the Atmosphere • The accomplishments of this highly experienced artist are numerous, as evidenced by his membership of several prestigeous art societies in New South Wales.

Moving the Cattle – Quipolly • This landscape specialist has chosen a rural scene at the foot of the hills at Quipolly, not far from Quirindi in the New England region of New South Wales.

Drawn into Art • Not many people can claim that Woody Woodpecker inspired them into the world of art!

Riding out for the Day • A relaxed and uncluttered vision of an Australian surveying his land.

Paints and Mediums • Here’s a summary of some of the fabulous products that are now available in Australia, with plenty of hints and tips.

I Love Drawing • In Derek’s own words: “Drawing gives you freedom to roam. A pencil and pad is all you need, and you can lean against a wall, in a pub, on a train, you can always draw.”

Duffy’s Farm

The Singing Artist • This multi-talented Australian lady has nurtured her love for art and music by travelling all over our magnificent country while promoting her creative work.

A Bed for the Night • Simple shelter from the elements in the form of a rural shed – an inviting sight for two weary travellers after a brief spring shower.

Artistic DNA • When this lady studied her family tree, she found a famous artistic ancestor: Sir Joshua Reynolds. She feels that he has a lot to do with who she is, and her deep love of art … and she believes that art is in her DNA.

Thistle Patch – Freemans Reach • The reference photograph for this painting was selected because the artist really liked the light, the old sheds, and the interesting foreground with the thistles and weeds.

The Keen Observer • This clever artist kindly shares his views of drawing, composition, photographs, colour and tone.

Nicholson Street, Carlton • The fabulous vivid colours bring this Melbourne city street scene alive.

Visit a Gallery • Looking for some inspiration? Why not plan a trip to a gallery or two? Australia is host to many wonderful art galleries, and it’s always a fabulous experience to be surrounded by so many varied works of art, walking around and soaking up the creativity and vision of fellow artists. Here are some of the galleries that we have recently profiled in Artist’s Palette.
